Most older adults will need some additional support later in life to complete the tasks of daily living and stay healthy. They are often the first to notice decline; but, many refrain from “burdening” their children with the news.
In many cases, a holiday may be the first time in a while that boomers visit their loved ones in person. It’s an opportunity to detect declining competencies.
Examples: doors left unlocked, foods with expired dates, missed bills, forgetting when they last bathed, bruising they don’t remember. Would they have the presence of mind to dial “911” for help.

The key is to be proactive.
